LAFCADIO HEARN-10 The Memorial Monument for Gensuke and the Musical Stone of Oba Gensuke "had lived in the street Saikamachi" and was "put under the bridge" as a victim."The midmost pillar was called by his name,-Gensuke - basira" (Chief City"). There is a legend about the Musical Stone of Oba that it cannot be carried beyond a certain distance.When a daimyo (a feudal lord) ordered it to be conveyed to his castle at Matsue,the Stone made itself so heavy that a thousand men could not move it.So it was abandoned before the bridge.("Chief City") Lafcadio Hearn came to Matsue City to teach at the Shimane Middle School on August 30th,1890. It is said that his ship arrived in this area.
